Ocean City History

Generations of families and savvy travelers have made Ocean City, Maryland their vacation destination for centuries. Before 1875, Ocean City was dubbed as a sleepy fishing village. Once the Atlantic Hotel began welcoming visitors and the railroad bridged Sinepuxent Bay, the area became a prominent resort town that to this day, continues to bring vacationers from all over to experience this charming seaside town.

Our coastal region encompasses a uniquely diverse ecosystem. Ocean City lies along a 10-mile barrier beach between a chain of bays - the Sinepuxent, Isle of Wight, and Assawoman - and the Atlantic Ocean. The Ocean City Inlet connects the bays with the ocean and just 8 miles south of Ocean City is Assateague Island National Seashore. While the first order of business is unwinding on the beach with a little shelling, body surfing and sunbathing, our area offers plenty of other things to do.

Ocean City Maryland Boardwalk

Ocean City Boardwalk

No visit to Ocean City is complete without a stroll on the Ocean City Boardwalk. The boardwalk was constructed in the 1900s, with the Trimper's Amusements following shortly after. It has remained a staple of Ocean City tourism. The boardwalk extends three miles and is lined with restaurants, shops, and amusements for the family.

Play games, take a bite of a refreshing cup of soft-serve ice cream, or ride one of the exciting rides offered at Trimpers Amusements or Jolly Rogers at the Pier. The Ocean City Boardwalk is the perfect way to enjoy Ocean City.
